We intend to take some time to play with and get to know the technology. Many of us intend to start up blogs with our classes, and further explore the benefits of podcasting.
We feel the most beneficial resource to help us do this is time – be it time off class commitment to ‘play’, or time together to check up on how we are doing. However, we do intend to keep in touch through the masterclass blog, and share ideas that way.

I would very much like to see a definitive site on the LTScotland that details what you can and can’t do in relation to copyright material. For example, John and Ewan were ablt to tell us to search for ‘podcast safe’ music. Hints and tips and clear advice would be greatly appreciated. Maybe a web etiquette/ethics page should be considered?

During the last three days (yesterday afternoon in particular) we were all very keen and focussed, working with purpose and enthusiasm. I’m wondering, however, if the weblogs we’ve created will continue to be updated. Is this sustainable?
My next steps:
• Keep in contact with Masterclass colleagues to share good practice;
• Continue to monitor my use of my weblog;
• Reflect how weblogs could be used in a university context to enhance learning and teaching;
• Share good practice with ICT colleagues

The next step is to consolidate what I’ve learnt and choose a school where I can work with a class or group. I’ve also got to make sure that learnerblogs is going to work witihn our firewall. With this in mind it’s going to be important for SSDN to facilitate the new technologies.

I anticipate using many of the ideas but it will be one small step at a time, experimenting and learning with the students.
I would not anticipate introducing this to colleagues until I felt comfortable about finding my way around. However, I am beginning to get to grips with the ideas (although I am still dodging around ‘RSS’).

Blogging and podcasting are inexpensive (mostly free) technologies so are easily implemented. However, there are a number of different technologies which can be used to the same end. While they’ll all allow us to blog/podcast, there are bound to be some programs which are better than others for use with children.
A review of the educational strengths/weaknesses of the different programs would be useful.

SSDN will have a profound influence on Scottish Education. It is vital that easy access to blogging/podcasting facilities is available. This may be through one system or by allowing access to any system.
3
An immediate step is to ensure that all Authorities allow access to blogs.
4
The community of Scottish bloggers needs to keep in touch to avoid duplication of effort and to share ideas. This might be done through scot-edu-blog or the MasterClass New Technology blog or something else. Whatever is chosen, I think that it is vital that everyone stays connected.

Time to reflect on and implement something of pedagogical value(involving blogs, and podcasting) on a manageable scale in our own school or university contexts, with some evaluation of its ‘added pedagogical value’. Moreover, take something forward in groups of members wishing to work together for mutual support and creative synergy. Then maybe we can reconvene for a ‘Show and Tell’ or ‘Kick and Say’ session on the Day 1 on 21 March 2007. On the subsequent 2 days groups will pursue developments in their area of interest whilst located in the same place, with good food, wine and a conducive atmosphere.

need to develop confidence ourselves – begin by using technology for the needs we have and work at our own pace
start with one class, and gradually widen the audience/participation
focus on podcasting rather than blogging to start with – less resistance from staff?
start with a specific purpose – eg. blogging while on a school trip to inform parents/those back at school
find out what the authority network might be blocking
keep in touch with other masterclassers via edublog
gradually share with other staff as confidence develops

My next step is to go one massive detox!
Following that I have invited the Qwizdom man down to North Ayrshire next week to demonstrate his funtastic system! I shall share anything of interest from that….
I really was hooked by the podcasting and just how straightforward that will be in my primary schools. Aim to target a couple of schools and give that shot relatively soon.
Blogging is cool, but I see so many more Authority issues (for issues read objections) in that area and will no doubt need to arrange a series of meetings to create agendas for subsequent meetings that will make dates for future meetings! But will be worth it I am sure!
Enjoyed everyone’s company – thanks for a great time.
